    The amount that employers spend on healthcare has continued to outpace inflation. Large employers are predicting that their health care costs will rise by more than 6% in 2020; with small and mid-size companies rising even higher. In the past, the solutions for containing costs have been scarce. Employers have had two choices: increase costs or dilute coverage.

    Times have changed – there are now creative ways that an employer can improve the quality of their health plan while decreasing costs.  By taking a closer look at both failed and proven strategies, we will cover how aligning incentives with goals can help to lead to better outcomes.

    Our conversation will move from understanding the immense cost of healthcare today, but more importantly how to gain control.  We will also create a special focus on how Human Resources professionals, who are frequently tasked with controlling an expense that 80% of CFO’s do not believe can be controlled, can elevate themselves and their role at the same time.

    About the speakers:

    Derek Winn is a Lead Consultant at The Business Benefits Group, where he has consulted clients regarding employer sponsored benefit programs for nearly the past decade.  

    More recently he is a co-founder of Distilled Concepts, an organization that is purpose built to provide more advanced advisory and consulting solutions exclusively for Employers of intention, and also counsel on solutions from the industry as a whole.  

    Derek focuses on restoring the confidence that both employers and healthcare consumers once had in their benefit programs.  His passion in his work today revolves around creating sense, sensibility, and sustainability in employer-sponsored health benefit programs.  In a time when healthcare benefit costs are doubling nearly every decade, Derek challenges the “cute ideas” that benefit brokers and advisors have provided to their clients, in order to focus on proven solutions instead.

    As a former educator, Derek is an effective communicator that leads interactive conversations, leveraging his own personal healthcare experiences, and track record of assisting clients when they needed his support the most.
