    Leadership in the 21st Century

For many of us growing up in the 20th century, our vision of leadership was formulated from watching John Wayne lead his unit into battle or vanquish the bad guys in one of any number of westerns.   Industry titans Harold Geneen at ITT and Jack Welsh at GE were the quintessential business leaders that everyone sought to emulate. The world was less complex, and command and control formed the foundation of most leader’s repertoire.   Fast forward to 2021 and we a faced with a different world.  The techniques that may have worked for leaders previously no longer work today.  It is no longer possible (if it ever really was) for a leader to control all aspects of the organization.  Change happens at a rapid pace, employees have more options, less loyalty, and therefore retention is a problem.  Competition has flourished and companies need to be fleet of foot to stay relevant.  Today leadership is no longer resident in a position but rather must proliferate throughout the organization.  These truths require a very different breed of executive and leader.  This discussion session will examine this leadership evolution and document the requirements for successful leadership going forward in the 21st century.   In this session you will learn about:

    • What is leadership?
    • What is the role of a leader today?
    • Behavioral Styles and their impact on leadership.
    • The Importance of mindset.
    • Critical Attributes of a leader.
    • Situational Leadership.
    • Building the Team.
    • The importance of conflict and diversity of thought.
    • Becoming a leader.
